AVG firewall blocks sending outlook emails

We understand that Microsoft Outlook will not send emails using my Bigpond email account untill that AVG enhanced firewall is turned off.

Could you please let us know when you started facing this issue? 
Please follow the below instructions, restart your computer once & check  if the issue persists:
Open AVG Internet Security, and navigate to > Menu > Settings > Basic Protection > Email Shield > Untick the "Scan outbound emails (SMTP)" checkbox.
Keep us updated.

Microsoft Outlook will not send emails using my Bigpond email account until I turn off the AVG enhanced firewall. I have already turned off the option to scan outgoing emails. Protection is seriously limited with the firewall turned off. Is there a way around this?
