Hi Philip,
You help me to find where the AVG firewall advanced settings lies.
Here what I have done and It's simple.
Under System services and Protocols you will find a rule as "Remote Desktop Server".
Edit the Rule by right click on it.
Change the remote address from secure to all networks in both rules (i.e TCP and UDP)
Save it .Your are done. Good luck!.
Thanks for the speedy reply, Aravind.
I already tested this. I shut off AVG Firewall (ignoring the dire warnings!).
I could connect with Remote Desktop no problem again.
Turned AVG Firewall back on. Same problem - connection not allowed.
So it's definitedly AVG Firewall.
I thought I could just disable AVG Firewall and go back to Windows Firewall. But Windows won't do it. It just says AVG is handling the firewall.
Of course, I don't want to leave the system with no firewall, so I turned AVG Firewall back on for the time being.
Hello Philip,

I have just purchased AVG Internet Security. Now I can't connect to other computers on my network with Remote Desktop Connection.
1. Can I do that?
2. If not, can I keep AVG Internet Security but go back to Windows Firewall, which allows Remote Desktop.
Actually, Aravind. Everything is working now!
I can connect between XP, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10 using Remote Desktop Connection.
For XP, Win7 and Win8 I was just being premature.
Once I shut everything down last night and restarted this morning, everything works.
I still couldn't connect to my test Windows 10 computer, however.
I have a Windows 10 test system and am monitoring it. I'll upgrade my other systems when I'm happy Microsoft has got all the bugs out of Windows 10.
I did the following in AVG to connect to Windows 10:
Options / Firewall Settings / Expert Mode / System services
System services and protocols
(I don't know whether I need to to do all this but I did it anyway)
Windows Remote Management
WS-Management HTTP Server
WS-Management HTTPs Server
Remote Desktop Server
Microsoft Terminal Services Server TCP
Microsoft Terminal Services Receive UDP
I made exactly the same changes in each:
Direction - Both ways
Local port(s) = 3389
Remote ports - 443 and 80 (probably didn't need 433, right?)
Remote addresses - I left at All Networks
Now I can connect to the Windows 10 system.
However, I'm concerned about the Windows 10 system, is it now vulnerable?
Please run the settings past your tech guys and let me know.
Thanks
Philip
