Hello David,
Sorry to know that you have installation issues in your new system as well.
Could you please confirm whether you are using windows XP with service pack 3?
I would like to let you know that you can install AVG in operating systems above windows XP, service pack 3.
Thank you.
Hello David,
Thank you for your response.
We suggest that you run our AVG remover tool http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe to remove the remains of the AVG's installation and install the AVG Antivirus once again using the link http://www.avg.com/us-en/download.prd-afh-free
Please feel free to get back to us for any issues with AVG, Thank you.
Hello David.
I am sorry that it took so long to respond back to your post. Could you please let me know if your Windows XP version is above Service pack 3?
I found it on this page: Standalone (Offline) Installer of AVG 2015 (All Products)
The specific file I used is: http://files-download.avg.com/inst/av/avg_free_x86_all_2015_ltst_222.exe
It upgraded itself to the most current version of AVG 2015 and stopped there. If you have an SSE1 class CPU, AVG 2015 is the highest version you can install as of this writing.
From the "For Whatever it's worth AVG Free Department": My older XP PC's that have an SSE1 class CPUs are currently running AVG 2015.0.6173 and are receiving database updates and ARE NOT nagging me to update to AVG 2016. Run Program Update Schedule is ON.
My newer XP PC's that have an SSE2 class or better CPUs are currently running AVG 2016.0.7227 and are receiving database updates. Run Program Update Schedule is ON.

I can confirm SP3 is installed. I also re ran the service pack just to be doubly sure.
So that isn't the problem.

Has anyone got an answer on this ?

Hello David.
I am sorry that it took so long to respond back to your post. Could you please let me know if your Windows XP version is above Service pack 3?
@ Alan
Many thanks. Kishore claims compatability with XP at SP3 but I've had the error on two different machines now. Norton suggests you need a processor with SSE2 which I think the second attempted machine has.
Will there be an answer ?
Kind Regards
David.
Hello Norton.
We have posted the solution for your query in your another post. Please follow up with that and I request you to avoid multiple postings for the same query because it would be confusing for us to follow up your thread. Feel free to get back to us for any further assistance.
Thank you.
@ Kishore (AVG Technologies)
Kilshore, Just to clarify I think user David Collins is specifically referring to AVG 2016 Free on a WinXP 32bit SP3 operating system.
AVG Guru
Respectfully, and I do mean that !
I recommend you to everyone I advise, and get asked to support them too.
The last I read of somebody trying your remover and the reinstall. All he ended up with was his Antivirus removed and still no installation possible. I am naturally nervous to remove the current version on that basis. Are you able to show me that this procedure has worked for anyone ?
I see you have a specific 32 bit version, is that what you are telling me I need ?
Kind Regards
David.
