While I understand you'all are just trying to help, I see no purpose in posting AVG's own sales campaign pop up – e.g. It would be the same AVG pop up box everyone gets for the same campaign. Nothing about it that would tell you anything in particular.
However, since this campaign started with the unending pop-up AVG box, the PC acted "funny", more sluggish. Finally, this morning when I turned on the PC, Windows (XPPro SP3) wanted to scan file integrity on C drive. In the middle of this ultra short scan, it began deleting AVG files – as best as I could write it down fast, it deleted these:
AVG Core log .1
AVG Core log .2
AVG Core log.3
AVG Core log.4
AVG Core log.5
AVG Core log.6
each of these entries was followed by the words: $130 of file 34081 (e.g. dollar sign 130 ; and 34081 was same on each one)
Deleting index entry (listing same AVG files in a list like above)
Recovering orphaned files (same AVG files in a list like above)
So what's that about?
In the early 1990s, program developers were limited in what they could do, code-wise, to tell their programs what to DO. Who remembers having to CALL the AOL company to REQUEST a FLOPPY-DISK just to update their program? Remember? Yeah, a real PITA. (By the way, I still have every AOL program disk, lol).
Then, program developers figured out how to do "command and takeover" updates, meaning, taking over a consumer's PC by byte-brute-force and commands to cause the program to update "whether you want it or not".
In "brute force command and takeover", companies tied the program's actions to "PC Start Up". HOW simple! Get in there when the PC is most vulnerable, which is before any consumer-initiated action! Ingenious! But of course, back then, we didn't have so many programs all demanding "start up" position. Heck, we had to wait 10 minutes just for the OS to finishing loading! Back then, it could take 30 minutes from pressing "on", to actually being able to move the cursor in Win 3.11.
Fast forward to the present. Now, people have bigger PC harddrves (compared to 200 mg in 1990), bigger and code-heavier programs, and lots vyying for start-up positions. PC speed usually compensates, so within 5 minutes, we are happily visiting email and forums.
So why in the world can't AVG-programming geeks figure out how to force-update WITHOUT TYING THE ACTION TO START-UP?! Programmers could set the program to update at any time when the PC is on. Period.
I protest computer-start-up triggering an onslaught of AVG immediately taking over my computer at that precise time. In 2016, we are long past this kind of brutish programming behavior.
The issue is that it pops up WITH EVERY START UP (more than 3 x a day), and ONGOING EVERY DAY FOR NOW NEARLY 3 WEEKS!

Hello J,
We understand how something like this can really try your patience.
I would like to inform that it is a temporary campaign pop-up to promote our product 'AVG Safe Surf' which will help our customers to secure their network. For more information on the product, please click on http://www.avg.com/us-en/safe-surf .The special pop-up is launched when our customer first time connects to new SSID, connects to public WiFi or logs in from the non-default country. After clicking on “Show me how I can stay protected” user gets to standard AVG SafeSurf product page.
Thank you.
AVG Users should NOT have to download ANY "diagnostic tool" to make an AVG campaign STOP after more than 3 weeks! I have clicked DECLINE more than 60 times— the error is that AVG programmers are not connecting the DECLINE link to what it is supposed to do, e.g. report to AVG "this customer says NO"! Just like on the campaign in Feb, you need to design a fix and send it out------ not make users play this stupid game of downloading a diag tool when the problem is on AVG side— not my side.
HIRE BETTER DEVELOPERS!
DESIGN AN AD CAMPAIGN THAT CLOSES AFTER CLICKING DECLINE!
STOP AD CAMPAIGN HARASSMENT!
AVG- YOU DO NOT "OWN" THE RIGHT BOTTOM CORNER OF MY SCREEN FOR YOUR AD CAMPAIGNS! MAKE THE "DECLINE" LINK WORK!
