I have had AVG for a number of years and since installing this new Zen version the icon in the bottom task bar does not show if protection is on or off.  Each time I come on line I click on the icon to open the product and see if it is showing red or green - most times it says protection has been disabled until computer restart and shows red - I have just restarted the computer so I click on the fix now button and it says you are protected.  Is there some way I can make it show on the task bar if it is protecting my computer or not?   thanks  Laraine

Download and run AVG Clear tool: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe. This tool will help with removing antivirus component of AVG 2017 and its traces.

Open tool
User Account control - click "Yes"
Windows safe mode - click "No"
Choose installed version (AVG Free, AVG Internet Security)
Click "Uninstall"
Click "Restart computer"

After restart, run AVG Remover and remove all other supported products and remnants of AVG (ZEN, Framework,…) as suggested in this article http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-uninstall-AVG .

Hello Laraine,
I am sorry to hear about the inconvenience caused. The older version of AVG is no longer available to use and we suggest you to use 2017 version only for better protection. Also, the free version of AVG can not longer be installed without AVG Zen. It could be possible that during the upgrade, the traces of AVG older version is leftover. I would suggest you to run AVG Clear and AVG Remover tools to uninstall AVG completely and reinstall it.

Hello Laraine,
Please be informed that, when we install AVG program, it has to installing their all the features/files. Sometimes, it missed some features/files to gets install may be because of internet access/third party security program/windows updates. If this happened after AVG installation, then it gives an option "fix now"(which will allow the missed files to get installed/enabled automatically). So if your AVG program says protected after clicking Fix Now button then your computer is protected from all types of malware.
Best regards,
Alok.

So I followed your instructions to the letter and reinstalled AVG free - the same thing is happening - I click on the button to open AVG and it shows a red 1 and says Protection is Disabled -until you next restart-   Fix Now - I click on fix now and it says you are protected.  what would happen if I didnt check it??? Says I am not protected - is this right??  Might be time to look at a different antivirus I think - Cheers Laraine

Hello Laraine,
I am happy to hear that your issue is resolved. If you are not sure, if everything is working fine, you can send us the screenshot( http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot ) of the AVG Driver Updater, so I can check if it is installed and activated correctly.
