AVG Free for Linux / New unofficial GUI

Your 2 items were extensively covered on the very soon to be 'read only' forum…
AVG Free for Linux (http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=242043) & Unofficial GUI (http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-forums?sec=thread&act=show&id=234645).
If anyone is interested in testing your GUI they'll now post on the Community. There's nothing to be gained by posting on the old forum since it is now virtually unmanned. The new Community is taking over.

Hello. I have installed everything ok, but I get this error at startup:
====================================================
XXXXXXXXXX@minipc:~$ /usr/share/avgui/src/entrypoint.py
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/avgui/src/entrypoint.py", line 32, in <module>
    langmodule.setuplang()
  File "/usr/share/avgui/src/conf/language/lang.py", line 417, in setuplang
    f = open(confile, 'r')
FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/XXXXXXXXXX/.avgui/config.ini'
XXXXXXXXXX@minipc:~$

Well, I tried with 14.04, 32 bit. I found avgui_0.93-1_all.deb in the bitbucket account. Maybe not the latest but the only one.
I installed by Ubuntu Software Center getting a download error. However, the second attempt was successful.
Now, there is a non-clickable avgui icon in the dash. Trying to manually start in terminal yielded avgui not found.
How to start? Next, I'll try to uninstall and install again. - Or, is there a better suggestion?

Thanks for your reply.
Just to mention that this is a totally new GUI for AVG, nothing to do with the one indicated in the second link you cited.
I will most likely publish a download link in the next couple of days for people to try / evaluate.

OK Pantelis, I've posted the link on the old forum as well so any Linux users will be aware that you're actually looking for testers.

What is the future of AVG Free for Linux? I have contacted AVG and got reassured that is not going to be discontinued but there is no activity at all regarding this product.
We have a GUI for AVG Free for Linux and we are looking for testers.

Thanks for your reply.

Hello,
I just a fresh installation on an old laptop running Ubuntu14.04 and I had no problems running (actually it gave me a hard time installing it and addressing some dependencies) but when this was over the program executed OK (through the Unity icon).
Same goes for the feedback I got from some volunteer testers (no problems reported)
Are you using Ubuntu 14.04?

OK Pantelis, The AVG experts will no doubt be interested in the link when published here.
