Hi
I've a PC running Windows XP to work from home - I'm currently using it as we have bespoke software loaded, for our business written for XP. Yes we will upgrade at some point soon.
But in the meantime, yesterday I loaded AVG free to add some protection and it has caused havoc ever since from what was previously a perfectly fine working computer.
Now Firebox, Chrome and internet explorer open but become immediately unresponsive and not able to run any web pages.
Also I can not access the Task Manager - nothing happens.
Also if I try to shut down or log off, nothing happens either - the only way to switch the machine off now is pressing the power button.
If I try to remove in 'Add or Remove programs, the computer freezes.
I have tried the repair and clear tools, as there is a brief 1 minute window just after start up when I can access web pages before they go non responsive. The Repair Tool froze at 27%, and the AVG Clear tool just kept on swishing from side to side, said it was going into Safe Mode but didn't.
Please assist as I'd like to get things up & running.
Thanks
Martin
Martin,
Did you verify your PC has met the minimum system requirements including the processor and RAM? Please also check if you have another anti virus software installed which may conflict with AVG and result in application malfunction. I would suggest you to download and run AVG Clear and AVG Remover tools once again.
Download and run AVG Clear tool: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe. This tool will help with removing antivirus component of AVG 2017 and its traces.
Open tool
User Account control - click "Yes"
Windows safe mode - click "No"
Choose installed version (AVG Free, AVG Internet Security)
Click "Uninstall"
Click "Restart computer"
After restart, run AVG Remover and remove all other supported products and remnants of AVG (ZEN, Framework,…) as suggested in this article http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-uninstall-AVG .
Hi Alok,
Thanks for your reply, I appreciate any help you can give.
Yes it is XP with Service pack 3.
I can't disable by opening AVG Free Antivirus, as the removal tool got rid of any icons on the tool bars and desk top. But AVG is still present on the computer, as it appears on the Add And Remove Programs list, and also there are AVG error message boxes that appear just after I start up the computer.
Best regards,
Martin
