AVG FREE - Not Free?

I downloaded and installed AVG Free.  It was a brand new install after reformatting so I registered it.  I now have a charge for $52.99  and looking up my AVG account show 2 orders I never made for AVG Tuneup!  What the heck is going on?

I have checked your account, you were charged automatically for AVG TuneUp Unlimited product. As you have enrolled for a trial subscription for AVG TuneUp Unlimited with automatic renewal enabled, you were charged 3 days before the expiry date of the trial subscription.

There is no Free AVG PC TuneUp product, only Trial and Paid versions are available currently.

I also see that you have submitted a refund request for the recent charge. Our refund team will process the order and get back to you via email.
