AVG has locked my device

Hi,
I went to download an app yesterday from Virgin Media and my AVG anti virus kicked in locking my whole device. It basically just has a blue search button swirling round as though it's looking for something. I cant switch the device off and it doesn't have a battery that I can remove. I have tried to unlock my device from my laptop but I get a message saying that it cannot perform that task as the device either has no connection or is switched off. Any ideas?
