Click on Menu->Settings->Troubleshooting->Uncheck "Enable AVG Self Protection Mode" and check the status.

I have AVG Internet Security and after a recent update my PC has been running very slow. A look in task manager revealed AVG User Interface 20%
AVG Resident Shield 19.7%
AVG Service (32 Bit) 45%
I am running Windows 10
I have 8GM RAM
And a AMD A6-6400K Processor
I have tried repairing AVG, no joy
I have tried uninstalling and installing and no joy
I have restarted and fully shut down my PC and no joy there either.
Please help sort this, otherwise I will have no choice but to look for an alternative and request a refund on my subscription.
