Please let us know the version of AVG installed on your computer (Open AVG - Menu - About) & clarify whether you're able to access the websites in a different browser such as Chrome or Firefox.
Meanwhile, please disable web shield & check if it helps (Open AVG Internet Security - Web & Emai - click on toggle bar beside Web Shield to temporarily disable)

Thank you for the quick response. Somehow, this problem seems to have resolved itself – this morning, when I turned on my laptop, I was able to get to all the websites. I didn't make any changes, so I don't know what happened, but the error message is gone and it seems to be working fine. So I think I'm all set.
