Hi Scott,
We are glad to clarify this for you.
Have you activated your AVG program?
Could you share us the screenshot of the issue to investigate further?
You can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on "Answer" & then click on the "Image" [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.

The scan I just ran in Internet Security returned with a notification that I had an "Advanced Issue". Looking at the details it tells me that 51 of my files are "open doors for more advanced threats". There is nothing telling me WHY they are open doors, What an open door IS (to AVG), or what happens if I hit "Resolve". These are almost all .pdf files I have created. What is it I am expected to do to "secure" them?
I wouldn't have thought you could be more insulting, but you managed to do just that. I don't need "help" doing ANYTHING on my computer. What I wanted and needed were clear, concise answers to my four simple questions. That's it; literally a 2 minute task, had you done your job, or taken the time to read my posts. Instead, you refused to move off your script… and then insulted me. All you did was prove to me that AVG is not a solution for security. Don't bother responding.
We understand your frustration.
Let me clarify this for you.
We did ask you to share the screenshot to make sure we are on the same page. As mentioned earlier, AVG do have a resolve option in the promotional popup.
Regarding your issue, AVG will scan your computer for sensitive files and protects documents that may contain your personal data such as : Tax, payroll, employment, travel documents, plane tickets. If malware or hackers attack your PC, incase get access to these documents, your identity can be stolen and misused. That's why it has been marked as "Open door to advanced threats".
When you click resolve, these files will either be quarantined if its is affected by malware or will be protected by Sensitive data shield (not affected).
If an untrusted application, malware, or user who is not logged in to your Windows account tries to access your protected files, Sensitive Data Shield blocks access or prompts you to confirm if the access attempt should be blocked.
Answering my questions is the only help I need; a screenshot tells you nothing, if you don't know what the answers are.
1) Why are 51 of my .pdf files somehow "open doors to advanced threats"? They are .pdf versions of text rather than printed on paper. They are not editable in any fashion that would affect my computer.
2) What does AVG defffine as an "open door". That's AVG's terminology; you know the answer or you don't.
3) What happens if I hit "Resolve"? Again, AVG terminology. What does "resolve do? Erase the files, quarantine the files, make them into virtual paper airplanes…?
4) What does AVG think I need to do to make these "secure"? They are .pdf files, mostly single pages, and no different than any other .pdf files on my desktop. I haven't set any special security or permissions for any of the .pdf files that are not selected, so what is it AVG is reacting to?
Answer those four questions. If you can't find someone who can. It shopuld be pretty easy; there should be documentation for each and every notification that AVG uses.
Jesus wept. You people really don't wantr to help, do you? There is no "better clarity" you will get from a screenshot. If you can't find AVG Internet Security and see the available screens on YOUR end, you are not customer support. All you are is an annoying waste of my time. I know perfectly well what AVG DOES; I wouldn't have installed it if I didn't, and that was not a question. As for your statement "If malware or hackers attack your PC, incase get access to these documents, your identity can be stolen and misused." that's utterly false. Why? Because not ONE of the .pdf or .doc files is Tax, Payroll, Employment, Travel or tickets. I have over 400 .pdf files on my system; AVG only selected, apparently at random, 48 of those. NOT ONE OF THOSE contains sensitive information… unless you think a packing list showing the items shipped to me is somehow "sensitive"… unlikely, since the data there has no credit card numbers, no SSI, nothing but my ship-to address. Hardly "sensitive". Nor are the three .doc files AVG marked as issues; a list of lumber sizes I want to order, a list of model and serial numbers, and a list of books my brother wants for Xmas/Birthdays.
You did at least manage to answer one question, in regads to what "Resolve" does. Here's the problem: that creates an entirely new set of issues. If AVG already "protected" my sensitive files, why aren't these also protected automatically? After all, they have all the same properties as the rest of my .pdf files. I know; I looked to see what differences there might be. I have 7 .pdf files that have hyperlinks in them; none are on the "issues" list. As for files affected by malware, that should be shown IMMEDIATELY! I should NOT have to ask for help or clarification; any anti-virus program that doesn't notify me of malware is useless.
As for how to post a screenshot Santosh, don't insult me. I know perfectly well how to do so; I don't WANT to, because it is a pointless exercise and only allows you to check off a scripted step.
I do have to thank you and Rakshith for one thing; I won't be renewing my AVG license. I will spend that $44.28 on a MalwareBytes upgrade, or MacAfee, or even Norton. Tell your Marketing department that bait-and-switch sales tactics are illegal.
We are trying to answer all your questions, Scott
But you have provide us the necessary information in order to help you with the clarification.
We apologize if this has frustrated you.
You can contact our Technical Support using the below link if you need :
https://support.avg.com/support_sales?l=en
All that link does is send me back to the beginning of the Support page, and try to upsell me to paying for support. I already paid for the product; charging me for support is pure greed. It looks like that is all you are trying to do; if you actually had answers to my questions, you would have provided them. Once again you try to claim you need a screenshot; that is simply not true. AVG's program will have very defined responses and logic chains. The notifications and verbiage will be hard-coded in the programming. There should be, and I am certain there IS, a "Rosetta Stone" of documentation that would tell legitimate support staff what an internal message means. Since none of you seem to have that information I am left assuming that your only purpose is to try and upsell Paid Support; and that is just price-gouging. Is there anyone out here in the community NOT paid by AVG who is familiar with the terminology and what "Resolve" actually does with files?
Please accept our apologies, Scott
My colleague asked for a screenshot just to make sure.
Because you will also get 'Resolve' option in the promotional ad from the AVG for other products.
Kindly cooperate and share us the screenshot, so that we can assist you in resolving.
Why would you need a screenshot? I have given you every bit of information. Of course I activated AVG; how else would it run a scan? If you don't know enough about AVG Internet Security to know what an "Advanced Issue" is, or why it would tell me I had files that are "open doors for more advanced threats" then you don't know enough about the program to be of help. You certainly don't need a screenshot to answer my four questions; you either know what they are or you don't. Don't waste my time with rote scripted posts; find me an AVG Support person who knows the program.
- AVG detects all the files that contains any information. The files are listed as open doors, as they might be the possibility of advanced threats like ransomware can be accessed, as generally in PC, these files can be access when one might have permission to access to those files. Hence these files are considered as open doors.
Note : 'open door' is not our terminology or jargon. Our developers/designers put effort in these so that our valuables like you can have a better and simple understanding.
3) Likewise 'resolve', simple as that. Each feature in the AVG Internet Security does it's own feature when you click the final button, in this case 'Resolve'. When you hit resolve, these files are locked in quarantine and it can't be editable. So it requires separate authorization.
