Avg Internet Security started to update software automaticly

I must say I am experiencing the same issues.

I have an AVG Ultimate licence and have Internet Security (Anti-virus), Tune-Up and Secure VPN installed.
In Tune-Up I have updates set to manual and have a handful of programs set as excluded. Tune-Up seems to run a program
C:\Program Files\AVG\TuneUp\su_worker.exe and stores the results of any (manual) software updates in

C:\ProgramData\AVG\TuneUp\Software Updater\state_cache.json

However, the Internet Security (Antivirus) element of AVG Ultimate also has:

C:\Program Files\AVG\Antivirus\su_worker.exe and stores the results of any software updates in

C:\ProgramData\AVG\Antivirus\Software Updater\state_cache.json

This latter instance of su_worker does its own thing, is not configurable and overrides the settings in Tune-Up - specifically it periodically (every five days or so) updates the handful of apps I have explicitly told Tune-Up to exclude from updating.

I recently go so annoyed with this that I uninstalled the AVG Internet Security (Antivirus) Ap and reinstalled it from scratch. I noted with the new installation that the

C:\ProgramData\AVG\Antivirus\Software Updater\state_cache.json file and, indeed, the folder containing it no longer existed. But a few days later it’s back and has updated all my apps including the ones I did not want updated.

AVG is disrupting all my permanent licenses (ie, ones where I paid for and chose to freeze a specific older version) and forcing me to clean out and reinstall 3 apps every few days. So two issues:

  1. Why does this happen and how can I stop the Internet Security (Antivirus) version of su_worker.exe updating all apps?
  2. I am paying for and using Tune-Up to fine tune app updates just the way I want them. What is the point of my paying for this software if your Antivirus software - also part of the AVG Ultimate ‘suite’ - just overrides everything I try to do in Tune-Up?

It’s all very annoying. Please respond with some actionable technical assistance on how to stop AVG Antivirus doing this to me.

Hello Andrzej,
Thank you for contacting AVG Community Support.
I’m sorry to hear about the unexpected app installations. I understand how important it is to have control over updates on your system, so let’s work together to resolve this.

  • Could you let me know on which device and operating system you’re noticing this issue?
  • Additionally, could you share a bit more about how you suspect AVG Internet Security might be causing these installations?
  • If possible, any screenshots showing these updates or installations would be very helpful for us in investigating further.
Thank you for your patience, and I’m here to assist in any way I can.

Thank you for your understanding.

Hello again, I do have a proof, that AVG Internet Security is making those updates.
2 days ago I had again updated software Filezilla (in the background), then I found a file from 10.11.2024 in directory:
C:\ProgramData\AVG\Antivirus\Software Updater

called state_cache.json

And there is a log like that (fragment):

68.1","detectionTimestamp":1731274052047,"downloadDurationMs":4300,"downloadSize":12450904,"downloadStatus":80000,"icon":{"path":"C:\Program Files\FileZilla FTP Client\filezilla.exe"},"id":"tp184","ignored":false,"installerPath":"C:\Users\andrzej\AppData\Local\Temp\su_data\{0CB13352-3C2D-43EB-833E-52A1A1537A52}\FileZilla_3.68.1_win64-setup.exe","isEndOfLife":false,"isUnsupported":false,"isUpToDate":true,"manualUpdateUrl":"https://filezilla-project.org/download.php","perUser":false,"previousVersion":"3.68.0.0","releaseNotesUrl":"https://filezilla-project.org/versions.php","severity":{"name":"Unknown","value":0},"supportsAutoUpdate":true,"title":"FileZilla","updateState":{"name":"SuccessfullyUpdated","value":10},"updateTimestamp":1731274118330,"vendor":"FileZilla Project",

So AVG Internet Security has this feature and is updating apps. I have licence for 2 next years, so I would rather to control this setting instead of having automated updates.

Hello Andrzej,

We're sorry for the inconvenience caused. We understand that other programs are getting updated when using AVG Tuneup. We will check and help you to resolve it.

To fix this issue, we request you to get connected with our additional support. An email instruction has been sent which will help you to get connected. If the email is not found in inbox do check on spam and junk folders.

Hello,
I've got updates all these apps without doing any actions:
User-added image

All these apps can be updated by AVG Tune Up (which I'm not using on my PC right now, I got only free version), but even that this app is still working with apps and is maintaing a folder:
C:\ProgramData\AVG\TuneUp\Cache\InstallLocation
with newest version of install locations and newest install files (up to yesterday date).

I would rather to have control on it.

I had the same issue happen tonight. Expect I do pay for AVG. However I have AVG Tune Up set to manual updates, and it decided to automatically up my apps tonight. Which lead to one app that I didn't want updated, now being updated. So now I have to figure out if there a way to revert that one program because you can't get the old version anymore since the software company was bought out by another company and they have change the policy and terms of the program.

AVG shouldn't give the option of manually picking which apps to update if they're only going to automatically update all programs on the user anyway.

Hello Abdul, please ask devs for fix that problem with automatic updates.
Many our user have same problem and he found that problem is with AVG TuneUp. Please remove feature for automatic updates on background from your products or set up that for turned-off.

I really don't understand who stupid could add this feature. Please users decide if they want or don't want to install anything.

BTW: Do you know that exists Perpetual License? You caused many problems for Perpetual Licenses Users.

Please use brain. Thanks. Martin

Hello,
On my PC I don't have paid version of AVG Tune Up (I got it on laptop), but I've AVG Internet Security. I've notice that since late October AVG Internet Security is automaticly installing new version of apps (like keepass, 7-zip and etc) without permission or my actions. How to stop that?

I meant 27.10 and 03.11.
