The previous update files might not got installed properly and that's the reason you might have faced the issue.
Open the AVG program and click on the options on the right top corner and click on the Advanced settings.
Select update on the left panel and select Manage.
Select delete temporary update files > Click OK twice.
Try to update the AVG program and check if it helps.
