I apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused. This could be caused due to incomplete installation of the update files. I would suggest you to uninstall AVG completely and re install it to resolve the issue.

The main dashboard is telling me that my free version is out of date.
When I click on Update Now the next window invites me to update Engine & definitions and Program
The update runs for one second and then stops; but the screen declares it is 'OK' and 'Already up to date
