I am absolutely certain that this is being done to my PC.
Several times I have had unexplained slowdowns for a few seconds then an unvanted pop up AVG advert - 'by complete coincidence' telling me they can speed up my computer… yeah by uninstalling AVG I fear.
This sort of marketing is just unacceptable. If it is intentional then AVG should be shunned. If is it coincidental, then building their adverts is slowing my computer to a dead stop for several seconds - and that is nopt acceptable either.
Time to change virus scanner I suppose
The only answer I can offer is 'Yes they do that, apparently to get money from the gullible, or because their sales software is grotesquely bloated', so perhaps it IS time to change virus scanner.
AND, don't get me started on the intentionally vague (mis)representation of what protection a VPN offers. It CAN prevent certain specific threats when you are on an insecure network, but that offers a microscopic level of protection improvement to a naieve user on their home network, unless they live in a police-state and need the privacy… so long as they never open an email attachment
My computer has only slowed down since I purchases AVG products without the 'Speed up your computer' product. And now my computer runs slow and I keep getting add's looking for money to buy a speed your speed up product?
Hello Carolyn,
I am sorry to hear that. I would love to assist you. Please open the control panel - program list and check if you have two entries of "AVG Protection". Also, please share the screenshot

of the popup message as well as AVG Internet Security dashboard.I believe AVG is slowing my computer down so they can sell me their software that speeds up your computer. Has anyone else had this happen? My laptop just suddenly started behaving funny and is very slow sometimes but then AVG pops up and tries to sell me their software to fix this.
