I use AVG Internet Security for Mac.
I have 3 questions below, regarding which AVG items should appear in the Mac’s built-in Firewall “Allow/Block” list. But first, please consider this background info:
AVG recommends to turn on the built-in Mac OS Firewall here…
…so, I have the Mac OS Firewall turned on, as follows:
Block all incoming connections:
OFF
Automatically allow built-in software to receive incoming connections:
ON
Automatically allow downloaded signed software to receive incoming connections:
ON
Enable stealth mode:
ON
Two AVG items are appearing in the Firewall’s Allow/Block list, depending on which Mac OS I am using. Those AVG items are:
In Mac OS Ventura:
com.avg.hns
- Firewall has this set to “Allow incoming connections”
com.avg.proxy
- Firewall has this set to “Block incoming connections”
In Mac OS Sequoia:
com.avg.proxy
- Firewall has this set to “Allow incoming connections”
(note that com.avg.hns does not appear in the Allow/Block list for some reason on the Mac running Sequoia)
With all of this in mind, I have 3 questions:
-
Should any AVG items be appearing in the Allow/Block list at all?
-
If AVG items should appear, which ones? And, should they be set to “Allow” or “Block”?
-
Does it matter if com.avg.hns is missing from the Allow/Block list in Sequoia’s Firewall?
Thanks in advance for any advice that might be provided.
