AVG Major Update

Perhaps I have not been making myself completely clear. Both AVG AntiVirus Free and the Zen interface are installed and appear to be working properly. I am not missing startup icons from the desktop, start menu, or the tray icon. The only thing I'm missing is the icon for the Zen Interface from my Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. I am attaching a screen shot of what I mean. Your above instructions seem to be for a missing start icon. Would they apply to the situation I have just described above?

I repaired my installation of AVG Free, and now the Resident Shield will catch the Eicar Test Virus. I think everything is working OK now. Thank you for your help.

Hello Balasubramanian;
I'm getting confused. You say the AVG that appeared on the Add or Remove Programs list before is the AVG User Interface of my Protection free program. That is still there and is called AVG Protection and is for Ver. 17.4.3014. What disappeared is an icon called AVG which was for the Zen Interface. I believe you are asking me to download and re-install AVG Free. Can I do that even if it is presently installed?

Hello Gunaseelan;
I'm afraid I've got another issue. Although everything still seems to be working OK, I noticed something strange this morning. When I checked my Add or Remove Programs I noticed that the AVG icon (for the Zen Interface) has disappeared. I'm left with only the AVG Protection icon. I have done nothing that would have caused that AVG icon to disappear. With that icon gone, how would I ever be able to remove or repair the Zen Interface if that became necessary in the future?

Jim,
Thank you for reaching out to us with your concerns. We request you to repair  "AVG Protection" and check if it resolves the  issue. Make sure that the older version of 'AVG Protection ' is completely uninstalled from your control panel. We are here if you need further assistance.

I have used AVG Free for many years on my WinXP SP3 system. Two days ago, AVG did what I would call a very major update and moved me from Ver. 16.151.8013 to Ver. 17.4.3014. Now I have a new look GUI and that Zen interface. I am very concerned that this new version is not working properly. I have for years used the Eicar Test Virus to confirm that the Resident Shield is working properly. I tried it yesterday on this new version and AVG did not detect it as a virus. I don't think the Resident Shield is working. Also, I don't have as many AVG related processes running as I used to have and I see an aswidsagent.exe process running which I have never seen before. Also, I have occasionally seen an instup.exe process running which I believe is related to Avast Antivirus which I have never used. I would attach a screen shot of my taskmanager but the mountain icon does not seem to be working properly. What is wrong with my installation of AVG Free?

I have two instances of AVG in my Add/Remove Programs (screen shot attached). Which one should I use for the repair?

Hello Jim,
We are happy to hear that your issue was fixed after repairing AVG. We really appreciate your efforts. Thanks for returning to AVG community forum and posting.

Hello Jim,

We are sorry to know that the AVG isn't appearing on the program list.
Please be informed that the AVG that appeared on the list before is the AVG User Interface of your Protection free program.
We request you to download the installation file using this link: http://files-download.avg.com/inst/mp/Antivirus_Free_1817.exe which is for AVG protection free.
Please proceed with the installation and let us know the status of it.
If it gets completed then you should have the AVG Icon on your desktop as well as you should be able to see it on the program list.

You are most welcome. I truly appreciate your recent question for repairing Zen interface.
If you couldn't access the interface then please get into control panel and repair AVG Protection http://avgread.me/1BVxDSY which will fix the issue with the interface.
Thank you.

Thank you for the clarification, Jim.
Please be informed that in the recent update, we have made changes to remove the AVG Zen interface from the control panel.
This is the reason you couldn't view the AVG Zen interface on the control panel list.

I'm getting very confused. Aravindh has asked me to repair the installation of AVG Free and I have have asked which instance of AVG Free in my Add or Remove Programs I should use to do the repair. Ranjani is also asking me to repair the installation but is asking me to make sure the older version of AVG Protection is removed from my control panel. I don't believe one is an older version. I think one is for the Zen and one is for the AVG Protection. Which one do I use to make the repair?

Jim, Also have a look @ this link (https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000LSo8AAG). You're now likely to see some Avast features within AVG.
