AVG March 1 update crashes Internet Explorer 10

Al,
Let’s get things back on track for you. The screenshot you have provided gave me a better understanding. We are aware of it, we need to escalate this case to our senior team if you are using AVG 18.2.

Open AVG free -> Menu -> About -> take screenshot of this version interface and share it here.

Hello, Michael.
Please accept my apologies with regards to the inconvenience this may have caused. Could you provide a screenshot ( http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot ) of the error message that you are receiving when trying to open Internet explorer? Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions. I would request you to use another web browser like Google chrome or Firefox to access internet and respond to us.

We are having the same problem. When I open outlook Iam getting Internet Explorer error. When I click on close the program, it immediately appears again. The only solution is uninstalling AVG. It happens with all versions of Internet Explorer. I am also using AV software version 18.2.3046. I've used AVG remover to completely earase everything and then installed it again, but I am getting the same error. I am using office 365 therefore the latest version of microsoft office. Is there a solution?

I updated with the new version of free AVG on March 1, now I get an error message every time I try to open Internet Explorer. I had to do a system restore to get on and post this message! The AVG app now says I need to restart, which probably means when I do I will once again be unable to open IE and will have to do another system restore to see an answer to this. Thanks for using us as beta testers, AVG.
Trayan,

Update was today (March 1 at 10:25 am EST) and yes, it's version 18.2

Same problem with MSIE 11 on Windows 7 and I verified it IS being caused by AVG as follows:

  • Turn AVG protection OFF - MSIE starts up as it should.
  • Turn AVG protection back ON - MSIE doesn't start at all.
Here's the MSIE error message I'm getting.

MSIE error message

FYI, the problem only effects MSIE (both 32 & 64 bit versions.)  All my other browsers; Chrome, Opera and SeaMonkey (based on Firefox/Thunderbird); still work fine under the new update (I posted this using SeaMonkey.)

OS Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
Primary Browser SeaMonkey v2.49.2

The virus definitions update you issued today at 01:55:59 am (180302-0) fixed the MSIE problem (it now starts as it should with AVG protection enabled.)

Frantisek,
