AVG not loading after a restart

I attempted to get AVG to do a boot time scan on my machine.  However, when it restarted AVG hasn't started, and if I click on the AVG icon all i get is "Loading… This shouldn't take long."  That is all it will tell me, but if i check in Windows Defender it tells me I don't have an active antivirus program!

Does anyone have any ideas?

I carried out the above to see if it resolved my issue, but it didn’t.  So I used the sledgehammer and walnut approach, I uninstalled the program.  Then re-installed it, and now things are working fine.  That’s after I setup everything again.  Thanks for your help.
