AVG Reports Corrupted Files in GIMP

Where do I get a complete installer for offline installtion?  Before I put effort into installing it, I need confirmantion that I can control not only the updating of virus data but MORE IMPORTANTLY the updating of the AVG software itself.

I installed AVG Free 2016 16.101.7752.  When I select [Options > Advanced Settings] and then select Schedules, there is NO option for program updates.  The only options there are for scans and virus definition updates.

Worse, I can no longer revert back to AVG Free 2015 to regain the ability to control software updates.  My attempts keep saying that the version is obsolete.  The installer now insists on having an Internet connection to download AVG Free 2016.  If this cannot be corrected soon, I will have to try some other brand of anti-virus application.

Hello David,
We are sorry for the delay in responding. Have you earlier reported this false detection to the concerned department? If not, we suggest you to report by filling the form https://secure.avg.com/submit-sample .Thank you.

Hello David,
We apologize for the inconvenience.
We do have the latest version of AVG FREE program that is 2016 version, please upgrade to the latest version and see if you have any problem after upgrading the program to the latest version.
Thank you.

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
GIMP 2.8.18 (GNU Image Manipulation Program)
AVG Free 2015 2015.0.6173

I downloaded gimp-2.8.18-setup.exe from <http://www.mirrorservice.org/sites/ftp.gimp.org/pub/gimp/v2.8/windows/> and installed it. It seems to work okay for my very limited use, primarily viewing very large image files.

Now when I run AVG, however, I get a report that five executables are corrupted. The affected executables are all in [c:\Program Files\GIMP 2\32\lib\gimp\2.0\python]. They are:
gimpcolor.pyd.debug
_gimpenums.pyd.debug
gimp.pyd.debug
gimpthumb.pyd.debug
_gimpui.pyd.debug

The AVG scan that I did was a thorough scan, examining all partitions of all drives. I did additional thorough scans with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Free 2.2.1.1043 and Microsoft Security Essentials 4.8.0204.0. Neither of those two found any problems with GIMP. Note that all three applications have current databases.

Hello David,

As explained by Kishore, it is not possible to install AVG Free antivirus 2015 version.
If you had the offline installer file downloaded for 2015 version already and saved it  in your computer then it is possible to install it without the internet connection.
However, for older versions we have stopped the updates and our older version wouldn't work and will not perform effectively.
We have only the latest 2016 version and releasing regular updates for it.

Hello David,
You can download the offline installation file based on your OS (32 bit or 64 bit) from this webpage http://www.avg.com/us-en/download.prd-afh-free .
Then to disable automatic updates of AVG, please follow the steps below.
Open AVG.
Click on Options and select Advanced settings.
In the left pane menu, expand Schedules and select Program updates schedule.
Uncheck the "Enable this task" option to disable the automatic updates.
Click OK and Apply to save the settings.
Please, feel free to let us know if you require any further assistance. Thank you.
That is not what Avinash wrote here yesterday.
I downloaded AVG_Antivirus_Free_x64_693.exe from that Web site.  Since AVG is non-functional during an installation, I disable my Internet connection before installing it.  When I tried to install it, it failed with an attempt to access the Internet.  Why would a complete installer need an Internet connection?  This never happened with AVG Free 2015 or earlier versions.

Also, is it necessary to uninstall my AVG Free 2015 before attempting to install AVG Free 2016?
Yes, I would like to update ONLY manually while offline.  The problem is that AVG Free 2016 is updating automatically while I am online.  The automatic updates are slowing my other tasks, including some time-critical tasks, and interrupting my tasks to ask me to reboot.  This is why I want to revert to AVG Free 2015.

I have an archived complete installer file for AVG Free 2015.  When I uninstall AVG Free 2016 and try to use that archived installer while offline, however, it halts and insists that I go online so that AVG Free 2016 can be installed.  How can I use that installer file to revert back to AVG Free 2015?

Hello David,
We regret for the inconvenience caused. An internet connection is required in order to download the latest updates after the installation. Were you able to complete the installation successfully? Yes, it is always recommended to uninstall the older version of AVG to make sure that the installation of new version is successful. Thank you.

Success!!  I had no problem following your removal instructions.  To install AVG Free 2015 from my archived installer file, however, I had to reset my Windows calendar-clock back to when I previously installed the same version; actually, I used the day after.  It is now working with virus definitions from today.

However, all of this does not resolve the original problem:  AVG detecting five GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) library files as corrupted.  Two other malware applications do not detect any corruption in those files.  The GIMP developers say this is an AVG problem known since 2013.  It is still a problem with AVG Free 2016.

I have an acceptably recent version of AVG Free 2015 in my own archives.  This is a full installer, not a stub that needs to download anything from the Internet.  How do I install it without it insisting it is too old and then requires an Internet connection to install AVG Free 2016?

By the way, AVG Free 2016 16.101.7752 still shows the original problem I reported at the beginning of this discussion.  Five GIMP library files are being reported as corrupted.  Selecting the links for "More info" gives my your Web page about "Generic virus".  However, the report does not indicate the files are infected with any virus, only that they are corrupted.

David,
We apologize for that. This information should have  been clearly mentioned in his post.
The information provided by Balasubramanian is accurate. Only on paid version you can have the option to schedule program updates. Please update AVG using the offline update file so that the latest virus definition  engine will get updated.
Thank you.

Hello David,
We do understand your concern. But we are extremely sorry to keep you informed that there is no possibility to install the 2015 version of AVG program on your PC as it no more available to download.
