I tried the repair install. It worked on the restart right after the repair install, but at startup this morning, the same thing happened.
Here are some screenshots. In order they are: the event view messages, the icon, before clicking 'fix now' and after clicking 'fix now'.

It happened again. I got four good startups, and then this morning on the fifth startup, the exclamation point was on AVG again, and the "service timed out" messages were in my event viewer. Same messages and screens as before.
When I click on 'Fix it', the service is started and everything works properly. It just timed out during startup for some unknown reason.
The startup after the laptop reaches the desktop is a bit slow - can take 3 minutes for the Action Center flag to show up. I don't know if that's relevant but since it's timing out during start up it may be.
I ran CCleaner and had to manually delete a folder of Avira from the registry, but so far, so good. It had been refusing to start the service on the 2nd restart after I change things, so I wanted to see if I could do two start ups without issue before reporting. Last time, on the third start up, my speaker icon disappeared and AVG started this problem after I restarted to fix it, so I'm going to be keeping an eye on it for awhile. Let's hope it doesn't do that again. It's going to take a few more start ups before I'll be sure it's fixed.
Vishnu, I thought it had been escalated? Karthikeyan said she sent an email asking for logs and I did get two emails from "AVG Customer Care," one asking me to run AVG SysInfo and send them the output, the second for the screenshots I forgot to attach. That was around 2:30pm my time yesterday, and I haven't heard anything back yet. It's been 24 hours. Not sure how long a normal wait is for them, I'm assuming there's some sort of queue?
Also, our other computer, which has had AVG for years, did this yesterday. Screenshots are the same. Haven't turned it on yet today to see if it does it again, and as the icon is hidden, not sure how long it's been doing it.
J Ko here with more info - I looked in my Event Viewer and found the event "The avgbIDSAgent service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." Apparently clicking the button starts the service. I've started the computer 5 times since installing AVG, and this has happened the last 2.

The last two times I've started the computer, my AVG has the 'attention required' exclamation point. I open AVG, and it says I'm not protected and need a restart, along with a 'fix it' button. I click the button and it's fixed, no restart. Why is this happening?
Yeah, you can try CCleaner later to remove the leftover files from Avira and then restart your PC and check with the issue.
Just finished. AVG has been installed, doubt it will help as it didn't last time. Still waiting to hear back from Customer Care in my email.
Ko, we are unable to view the screenshots.
You can post the screenshot here on your topic. Click on Answer & then click on the Image [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
Thank you for the screenshots, J Ko.
I recommend you to uninstall and reinstall your AVG products to check if that fixes all a time.
Refer the below article to run AVG Clear and remover tools: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product which uninstall AVG with its traces.
Reinstall your AVG Internet Security as suggested below: http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=Download-and-install-AVG-Protection .
Okay. Did you click on "Run Anyway" and continued with the remover tool process?

Hello J Ko,
It seems AVG Identity-service components is not started during PC restart. This might be due to missing or corrupted files at the time of update.
Do you still receive this error? Have you tried with repair installation and checked with the issue?
Please share the screenshot of AVG user interface if you need further help.
REALLY THIS IS CRAZY I am battling with the VPN now not working and its taking days to get nowhere I have to do everything like in serial mode because I have no time to stay with the PC while it is busy doing something and then saying try again. J Ko has also taken many days now and sounds like he/she knows what they are doing what with logs and screen shots. I stand zero chance of even finding all that stuff before my subscription expires in 2020 or thereabouts. If uninstall and re-install then the messages want money again so how do I overcome that part of it since subscription is still valid for a long time. My screen looks the same as J Ko has put on (It said answer OR COMMENT
That's unfortunate.
I will email you the steps to collect error logs from your computer.
Please send us the log files to escalate the case to our senior team and provide the screenshot http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot of the error message.
I would like to add that my mother's computer, which has run AVG for years, just now had the exact same problem. Screenshots would match.

I followed the instructions in the email. The screenshots of the error message request I didn't see, but it's the same as before: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

Okay, I uninstalled AVG, ran the remover - when I started the remover, I got the error message "The program can't start because api-ms-win-core-localization-l1-2-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem." But it kept going after I clicked okay. Then I ran AVG clear. I ran the Avira registry cleaner, but though the main window said indicated it finished successfully, when I looked to see what entries it had removed, it said "Done: Failure". Still, I installed AVG free antivirus afterward and had no issues installing AVG.
I checked the registry and there's still some Avira folders/files - I'll run CCleaner tomorrow to try and get them. Not sure yet if it worked concerning the startup of the avgbIDSAgent service. Will have to wait and see after I run CCleaner and restart again.
