AVG Secure VPN slowing internet by half (or more)

This did not used to be an issue, but in recent weeks, my speed has suffered.

Tonight, using Verizon SpeedTest, I measured speed with and without Secure VPN
Without Secure VPN on – Upload and download speeds were nearly 1,000 Mbps.
With Secure VPN on – Upload was 532 Mbps and Download was 380 Mbps. I tried changing location several times, without appreciable differences.

Those are atrocious numbers. I’m okay with some performance hit in exchange for security, but this is really bad.

Please advise. I used to feel very comfortable with Secure VPN, but now…

Some trouble but started only lately. AVG not the best any more - too big a company to care.

True! Been researching other VPNs with security package. May have to split apps.
