I use the Rootsmagic v7 genealogy program every few weeks on my Mac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2017) running macOS Big Sur 11.2.2. It is a 32-bit program which runs on a bundled WINE Windows 10 emulator. For the last few weeks the Mac has been running slower and slower - so I restarted it. When I restarted Rootsmagic, AVG Security scanned it and discovered 5 instances of Win32:SuspBehav-B [Heur] and moved them all into quarantine. Excellent, I thought. However, Rootsmagic failed to open. Using Finder, I have completely removed the application twice now (from the Application folder and associated files from each of ~/Library/Application Support and ~/Library/Preferences) and reinstalled from scratch. Running the application, AVG did the same thing again each time but, interestingly, the first time it found 16 instances of Win32:SuspBehav-B [Heur], and the last time 251.
I am now worried about making any further (out-of-my-depth) interventions and would be grateful if anyone could shed some light on the cause of the problem and, more importantly, the way to fix the problem.
Man thanks, in advance. Peter
