Also the frequency of pop ups can be controlled directly from the app or can be even turned off.
Open AVG Internet Security->Menu->Settings->General->Personal Privacy.
Turn off 'Show ads for other AVG products' and 'Show ads for 3rd party products'.

Dear AVG Support,

Um, Im about to uninstall AVG, cancel my subscription, and write a social media nasty-gram about AVG spamming its customer to buy their products.  These constant pop-ups promoting AVG's own products is pretty darn-right annoying.  In the words of Obi Wan Kenobi to Anakin Skywalker  "You were supposed to defeat them, not join them."

How to turn these spam adverts off please?
