Hi Phil,
We're glad to check this with our next level support & clarify.
Before proceeding, please let us know the exact scan that has given the provided result.
Also, let us know the operating system installed on your computer & version of AVG (Open AVG Internet Security - Menu - About).
Hi Phil. Thank you for taking the time to communicate with AVG and I apologize for the delayed response. My name is Shawn and I am writing to you on behalf of the AVG Senior Support team.
Specific to your concern, simply answered, I would not necessarily say that IE is entirely removed from Windows 10, or replaced by Edge, as implied.
Upon googling, IE files in Windows 10, there are numerous forum discussions on this topic, some examples as follows:
https://is.gd/ILrGOK, Temporary Internet Files access denied or can't see | Tom's Hardware Forum, Hard links and junctions - Win32 apps | Microsoft Learn
Simply summarized, when accessing the junction from explorer, the access denied message received, is most probably applied to our scanner too. Hence the AVG Scan report entry.
I trust this explanation and information help clarify your concern. Regards, Shawn
When Scan runs this is in the log…
* AVG Scan Report
* This file is generated automatically
Scan name: Mine
* Started on: Tuesday, April 13, 2021 1:30:01 AM
* VPS: 210412-0, 04/12/2021
*
C:\Users\Phil\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\Low\Content.IE5 [E] The system cannot find the path specified (3)
Infected files: 0
Why is AVG still looking for and issuing warnings for IE ? Microsoft Update has already removed IE.
Thank you for providing us the info, Phil.
As informed earlier, we'll forward this concern to our senior team for clarification.
Thank you for your understanding in adavance!
