Hello Will,
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Are you using the AVG Protection free program?
I am also getting this message and I am using the PRO version. Why should I have to repair a product that I have paid for. Am I being protected??? How do I know??? I have cancelled my renewal but still have a couple of months to run so every ting should be working fine. Also why do I keep getting messages from you to buy additional products. Not a happy customer
"Well, this is embarrassing." Your words when I try running AVG. I've rebooted, I've reinstalled, I've contacted tech support, I've gotten the runaround. I can't even seem to get an answer on what the "problem" is.
Hello Will,
We understand your concern, this issues will occur when the AVG program got corrupted while trying to update the new version. To fix this, please go to control panel- programs list and then right click on AVG icon and select change option to Repair AVG .
Restart your computer and check the AVG program .
Thank you.

yes, I'm using the free program.
And not to be difficult, but it's reasonable to assume a person posting here is using the free edition, and to offer initial troubleshooting suggestions already based on that assumption, simply to save some time.
(I found out the hard way free users can't get tech support over the phone, after I'd already wasted several minutes on the phone.)
