AVG Tools (AVGToolsSvc.exe) Memory Leak

Hello Ian,

I was hoping that there was more information about this as this process is currently using over 4 GB of memory on my 16 GB RAM system.

Is this process really necessary as I only use Internet Security, and have been for over 15 years!

Neil

Hi,

After several years of using AVG I'm now finding the memory leak of AVGToolsSvc.exe is just getting ridiculous so I will probably be de-installing AVG. I did think it fair that I should at least raise a support question before I do so just on the off-chance something can be done (I've seen several people with the same problem on these forums though and it's never been fixed in years, so I'm not hopeful to be honest).

It's very clear now that the AVGToolsSvc.exe is the problematic module in AVG; I have two user IDs on this laptop (a Lenovo from about 7 years ago). One is for local work with no VPN or anything, and one is for my contract work, which has a VPN configured but only sometimes active (this being connected or not makes no difference). When I log on as my local work, AVGToolsSvc.exe rises to about 38MB of RAM and stays there. When I log on for my contract work, AVGToolsSvc.exe consumes more and more memory until the laptop becomes unusable. On an average day, it rises to about 2GB of memory used by the end of the day (it's been on about an hour so far and is currently at 300MB memory usage, just ticking up and and up constantly even as I write this). Actually, it's 305MB now.

Is there any help you can give before I deinstall? It's very frustrating having to reboot my machine every day because of this memory leak.

And yes, I have already deinstalled, cleaned and re-installed the latest version of AVG, more than once. It made no difference.

Thanks!

Ian Gledhill

(P.S. It's at 322MB now)
