We regret for the inconvenience caused. From your description we could see that you had you had installed AVG Internet Security trail version. If you need life time free version We would request you to remove previously installed AVG program traces from your system using AVG Remover tool and then try to reinstall AVG protection free.
Note:If you have installed any other Antivirus programs like AVAST, NORTON, MCAFEE or KASPERSKY, Please uninstall it first to avoid conflicts when installing AVG.
Once you have uninstalled from your system,try to follow the steps which mentioned below.
Remover and Download:
1) To download AVG remover tool, please click on this link: https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe
2) Run the downloaded file and follow the onscreen instructions.
3) Restart your PC when the restart option is displayed on the remover tool screen.
4)Once you have logged into your PC after the restart, please go to C:\ drive and delete the "AVG REMOVER" folder manually.
Note : Please use the AVG Remover tool mentioned on the article to uninstall the AVG program more effectively.

I've been using avg free and a expired trail pop is keeping me from accessing the menu in avg to change scan period. I have tryed uninstalling and reinstalling with offline but issue still continues.
Need advice on how to solve problem. Problem started after latest patch.
