Hi everyone, I’m hoping someone here can guide me because I’ve been running into a persistent issue with my website after integrating AVG protection and some related security settings. My website had been functioning fine for months, but recently, I’ve noticed that certain visitors are reporting difficulties when trying to access it. The most common complaint is that their browsers display warnings related to security certificates or “unsafe site” notifications, even though my SSL certificate is valid and properly configured. This has me wondering if AVG settings might be triggering these alerts in some way.
Another strange thing is that when I check my own site from my computer, sometimes it loads normally, and other times AVG flags certain scripts or resources as suspicious. For example, a few of my external JavaScript files (like those for analytics and a contact form plugin) are being blocked intermittently. I’ve triple-checked the code and verified the sources, and they are clean, but AVG seems to treat them inconsistently. This makes me think the issue might be related to how AVG scans or caches my website’s resources.
I also noticed that the website’s speed has been affected. Pages that normally loaded in under three seconds are now taking much longer, especially when AVG’s Web Shield is running in the background. Disabling Web Shield allows the site to load normally, but of course, I can’t ask all of my visitors to disable their protection just to access my site. It feels like some kind of conflict between AVG’s scanning process and the way my website serves dynamic content.
What complicates things further is that my Texas Roadhouse website uses a combination of WordPress plugins for caching, security, and optimization. It’s possible that one of these plugins is interacting poorly with AVG, but I haven’t been able to pinpoint which one. The problem seems to appear more frequently when users access the site from mobile devices, particularly Android phones with AVG installed, which makes me wonder if the mobile protection features are playing a role here.
I’ve already tried basic troubleshooting steps, such as whitelisting my domain in AVG, clearing caches, and even temporarily disabling certain plugins, but the issue persists. What’s most frustrating is the inconsistency—sometimes the site works perfectly, and other times it’s blocked or slowed down. I’m worried this could hurt my website’s credibility and drive away visitors who assume it’s unsafe when it really isn’t.
So my main questions are: has anyone else experienced something similar with AVG flagging safe websites, and if so, what steps did you take to resolve it? Is there a recommended way to ensure that AVG recognizes my site as safe and stops blocking or slowing down scripts? Please please give me a solution as I am not a techie. Any guidance from those who’ve dealt with this before—or from AVG team members, would be hugely appreciated.
