AVG trying to access a protected item and wont complete scan

Getting message from unknown source that something is trying to access aprotected item . When I ask the message what is trying to do this it tells me it is AVG.that AVG trying to access protected item. Message asks for password in order to allow. Never had a PW with AVG. Just set one up. Will this work. Right now when I try to scan for virus the scan stops in the middle. I guess this is because I need to give that pemission. This has been happening for months but this is first time I  try to fix.
