And you either haven't fixed this or you've actually made it worse.
There's NOTHING in my trash. nothing
Huuuuuuuuuuge swaths of the computer's settings were altered significantly.
My huge personal folder (on this/my wife's laptop) is EMPTY.
WORST OF ALL…this is unimaginable…Our professionally taken wedding photos are GONE. Gone…you have any idea what my wife's going through right now?!?! Yes, it's my fault that that was our only copy of the repository of photos, but this was a complete, utter disaster that you've seemingly been causing for YEARS in cases like mine all over the f'ing place.
Oh! And hundreds of dollars of professionally photographed headshots and reel videos.
I see this post everywhere on the internet. AVG TuneUp deleted all my files and they're unrecoverable, as per the tech support person I spoke to last night.
I trusted AVG TuneUP without much thought after recommending AVG AntiVirus to friends, students, customers and family for years. For YEEEEEEARS, I've been disabling other antivirus software and installing AVG on friend's/family's computers…we're literally talking 20-25 years…
And now this.
25 years of trust…GONE.
The actual TuneUp experience…seemed shiny and effective as it cleared up some space on the first tab…I don't remember what it was…
Then, "Duplicate Files"…horror show
I very carefully chose "keep newest version" when the "Find Duplicate Files" part of TuneUp asked me what to do with the duplicate files it had identified.
A couple minutes later…the TuneUp application CRASHED and then the application could no longer be found. It seems to have managed to delete itself! So I can't even go find the supposed "Undo" button or whatever you think is supposed to be there and whatever it's actually called. I'm afraid to reinstall TuneUp, as it's going to overwrite something when I install it and I don't want it to land on the files we're going to have to pay hundreds of dollars to recover…of the thousand dollar professional photos that were inexplicably deleted.
The app is gone.
Trash is empty.
Unfortuantely Time Machine was off.
Calling tech people all over town to see if someone can recover lost photo files from a hard drive.
Total nightmare.
I am going to copy and paste this message everywhere I can find an AVG hit online.
I truly can't f'ing believe that you've been getting this complaint for YEARS and have either done nothing or actually made the problem worse.
Shame on you.
AVG tech support girl last night: "Oh, sir? [after being on hold a while] My supervisor says that nothing can be recovered. I'm so sorry."
I guess I was talking to one of the actual human beings you employ. I can't believe you had this disaster floating around on the internet, just waiting to RUIN someones' day/week/month/who knows…she's understandably so so upset/sad/depressed.

AVG TuneUp just deleted every file on my computer. I tried to "clean duplicates" and it just wiped the whole computer out basically.
Lord only knows the number of important software files it probably deleted that are crucial for the computer to run on top of every piece of work I've ever created being wiped. Now I remember why I deleted this software from my computer years ago.
How do I get all my files back?
