Thank you for reaching us here with your concerns. 
You can set AVG Secure VPN to turn on automatically whenever your device connects to internet. 

1. Double-click the AVG Secure VPN icon on your Windows desktop to open the application. 
2. Go to ☰ Menu ▸ Settings.
3. Select Network Security in the left panel.
4. Under Turn on the VPN, tick the box next to Automatically when connected to the Internet.
5. Untick Exclude Trusted (private) networks.

Restart your PC and check whether AVG Secure VPN is turning on automatically or not.

vpn seems to switch off overnight and on starting up computer have to reset to on. Is this normal ?
