In fairness I'm sure that AVG products work incredibly well for 95% of all home users. I am impressed with the software on it's security checking. But sadly my setup does not fall in the 95%. The device that connects my home network (private) to the web is NOT a router (as the scans believe), it's a Linux server with a very strong Firewall using Ipset / Mod_Security and Fail2ban as all part of adding "bad players" (Example - Using Ipset I ban any IP address that scans the ports, after three attempts).
My setup is : The web - External IP (strong firewall) - server with email / web sites ect - Inside IP - Home network. This being a very typical setup when running a server from home. I did it this way so that the far better firewall was in use than the firewalls in a "router"
The problem (that I've been trying to solve over three days) is that when AVG-VPN is turned on, I can no longer send / receive emails or access my web sites to view or to change. Reason of course is that these are all accessed by the external IP address, which is blocked by Secure-VPN.
So, looking for a workaround solution. I have no issues with the external IP address being considered part of the Private Network (which it actually is) but there is no setting in AVG-VPN to allow it. To make matters really confusing AVG-VPN does NOT care about any rules you setup in AVG-Internet Security.
I've tried setting up "Exceptions" for my home URLs - VPN ignores
I've tried setting up Firewall rules to allow the external IP address to be Private - VPN ignores
So my question is simple. Is there anyway to add that external IP address to VPN to allow access?
I have 4 other machines I need to setup, so having an AVG engineer hacking around on the PC is not an option, it's also a simple question that only requires a Yes / No answer. I believe that the answer will be No.
Personally I could live with this limitation, sadly I have three family members that could not!
Possible Issue with VPN. I have the setting "Automatically when connected to Internet" and "Ask me to turn on the VPN when connected to the Internet" - neither work on my PC. After reboot open as "Off" and will stay like that no matter what I do, like browsing …
