AVG Webshield Blocking All Webpages - Tried All The Fixes

I'm having the same problem and nothing solves the problem except turning off Web Shield. I've tried just about every fix I've come across online and even spent a considerable amount of time on the phone to AVG last night, much of which was spent trying to determine exactly why the person I spoke to was trying to flog me Premium Support (which in the end I established was unnecessary). They did manage to effect a temporary solution through a remote session, but this has worked for less than 24 hours. Whilst the agent blamed the issue on Malware, neither an AVG Deep Scan nor Windows Defender actually found any Malware and all they did was change various settings in AVG plus restart the computer.

Just disabling https scan, incidentally, makes no difference.

Hello Thalion,

This isn't the expected behavior and we will collect necessary information which will be necessary for analyzing the root cause of this issue.
Provide the screenshot of AVG Antivirus free version by clicking on "Menu–>About" from the program interface.
The screenshot of error that appears while accessing the websites in Firefox.
We have sent an email with steps on how to collect and send us the AVG logs.
Once we receive these information, will escalate it to senior team for analysis.
Thank you.

AVG Free web shield is blocking all web sites on Firefox 60+ versions. This is not 1 or 2 or a handful of websites. So suggesting adding exceptions or manually updating certificates is not an option. This is ALL websites including AVG websites. This issue has come up numerous times on these forums.

Firefox is giving me the "insecure connection" warning. The message is as follows:
"Your Connection Is Insecure. This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox may only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate."

The behavior only started last night 1/29/2019. I have read multiple complaints & fixes on this website over the issue. I have tried the following fixes:
1) Turned off web shield - all web sites load fine. Turned web shield back on - all web sites are blocked.
2) Uninstalled the web shield component, reinstalled it - the problem still exists.
3) Installed a new & clean version of Firefox 65 - the problem still exists.
4) Uninstalled AVG by a) running AVG_Remover.exe & AVG_Clear.exe.
5) Re-installed AVG after doing item 4). The problem still exists as long as web shield is turned on.

AVG needs to fix this issue. I have used AVG Free for about 15 years with few issues. If this cannot be fixed soon, I will have to find an alternative. I would rather AVG address this issue asap.

Hello, found several threads about this topic, but not a current one.

This seems to be most accurate.
As of yesterday I cannot visit any webpage on chrome or firefox.
(only avg browser seems to be working).
If I turn of web shield suddenly it works.

Is this reported? Is it going to be fixed?

Hello Alex,

We will work together to sort this issue.

Open AVG Internet Security installed on your computer, click on "Menu->Settings->Components->Web Shield->Customize->Uncheck the option "Enable HTTPS scanning"". Check if that fix the issue.

If the issue persists, please let us know and we will assist you further.

The temporary fix is to reset to the AVG factory default settings.
That is: Menu–>Settings—>Troubleshooting—>(scroll to page bottom)Reset Now (under Factory default).

I'm having this exact same problem, ever since my AVG last updated. What is concering is that this problem seems to date back to at least 2015 and yet it still exists. ALL websites have been blocked through Firefox and no fixes work! Utterly ridiculous. My Firefox is fully up to date, and so is my AVG apparently.

I was asked by AVG support team to run the AVG SysInfo tool & submit screenshots. I have done so. My screenshots are the same as Alex Horton's except my virus definitions matrix is 190130-4.

Yesterday I also tried the "turn off HTTPS scanning". It did not fix the issue. Now today, it works - for now.  I use HTTPS everywhere addons for Firefox, so by turning off HTTPS scanning, I might as well not even have web shield turned on - this makes me vulnerable.

This issue is experienced by numerous customers. It seems the issue has gotten worse lately. AVG needs to fix HTTPS scanning. Turning it off & making us more vulnerable is not a good solution

Alastair, we regret to inform that your issue persists. We have forwarded the case to our senior team for analysis. Keep checking your email to know about the status. Your patience is much appreciated.

Thank you for your efforts in fixing this issue.

I see that your case is already escalated to our senior most team.

They will check the cause of this issue and make sure to provide you the best solution.

As a temporary work around, you can disable https scan and use firefox or use a different web browser till this issue gets resolved.
