HI there

I have been trying to install AVG free all day and it keeps just saying installation failed / or  i get an error message.   The one time it did install ok, once the laptop restarted it cancelled the installation.    I have looked on the forums and tried running the various fixes and removers before reinstalling etc but no change.    I have turned off windowns defender.    Not sure what else to do…

Alison, New laptop… Is there any other AV installed on the system?.. e.g. Trial McAfee.

To uninstall traces of AVG we request you to run AVG remover tool. To run AVG remover tool for AVG Antivirus please follow the below steps :
Please click on the below link to download remover tool
http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/util/AVG_Remover.exe
Accept the license agreement and then choose AVG Product and remove it.
NOTE: Once the AVG Remover Tool has done with its process. Please go to the drive where you installed this tool and look for a folder named as "AVG Remover" and I request you to delete it manually.

Hi there

I checked using your link and am 32 bit version.   I removed all traces of AVG again using your link and then deleted from my downloads folder before reinstalling the AVG free 32 bit using your link.   It failed again but with a different error message: -

Alison, On the error message are you also seeing Description: Event exec_finished?.

Alan - yes it also as that description on the error message.    

Aravind - i have unstalled using the remover  tool after each attempt so far but hasnt made a diference.  I will try following your instructions again.

OK Alison, Did you download & run the McAfee total removal tool… (http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe)?.

I had just uninstalled through windows so have tried running this link and starting again, also removing any AVG also and reinstalling but it still fails.   Gets to 100% installed and then just flashes up failed.
