I've had the exact same error the last two weeks on my XP Professional laptop. Called AVG support yesterday, gave a nice girl permission to install software to roam around my desktop, but she just wanted me to start reinstalling stuff, which and I've been around that track too many times to fall for it:-)
The error started after the last major AVG update, and Google shows that a number of people with XP got it, so I'll be watching this thread. BTW, I have a 3 PC two year license that cost $129, though it's on my other e-mail, so I get the free call in support, but this looks more promising.
Hello Larry,
I am sorry to hear that. Please provide me the screenshot http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot of the error message you receive, so we can check the same and assist you further.
Since the error happens at shutdown there is no way of taking a 'Screenshot' but I took one with my camera. It only says what I have already written.

Hoping for a solution
Windows XP Pro
32-bit
4 GB memory
75 GB Free Space
I have been receiving the following error, titled AVGSvc.exe error at shutdown:
The instruction at "0x0040e0d9" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
I have reinstalled with and without using the AVG Remover Tool.
I have cleared and enlarged my Paging File.
The problem persists. BTW uninstalling AVG eliminates the problem.
Suggestions?
Larry,
I apologize for the inconvenience caused. Please do not uninstall and reinstall AVG Free Antivirus as it seems to be an issue.
Hence I have sent an email to collect the diagnostic information regarding the issue. Please follow the email instruction and reply with required data. This will help us to escalate to senior team and they will contact you with a resolution as soon as possible.

Larry, I am sorry to know that you haven't received the email.
I have sent the email again and please check for it by logging into your AOL account from the browser and not from email client.
Please check for the email on all folders and keep us informed about the status.
After 24 hours the exact same error has returned.
I will repeat your instructions and try again.
