AVGSvc.exe Heavy CPU Usage

I still have the same problem in 2020 with Windows 10 the weirdest thing is that its trying to make my cpu usage 90%. So if i have other processes that take up like 50% AVG service is going to take up 40% to make my cpu usage 90%.
Hello, Todd.
We'll certainly look into this. In general, the performance depends on many factors (OS type and version, HW configuration, other running applications, virus scan in progress etc.). It is not recommended to use more than one security solution on a single system. They will compete for resources, which may result in slowdowns, crashes or in no protection at all.

Process named AVGSvc.exe is consuming CPU usage on my computer.  I can't stop it via task manager, and the AVG Control panel shows no scanning or other activity is occurring.  What can I do to resolve this. My computer's fans are going (normally they are quiet).

Task Manager shows the thread consuming the most CPU time is ntdll.dll!TplsTimerSet+0x40, and most of the other threads are at ucrtbase.dll!_o___lc_collate_cp_func+0x10. I see a few threads a aswStreamFilter.dll!on_avast_dll_unload+0x180

Any ideas on how to resolve this?  I've rebooted several times and the AVGSvc.exe process always starts right back up hogging the CPU.

Hello Michal,

We're sorry to hear this.
To be sure, did you reinstall the program using AVG Clear and remover tool?

I have also this problem. Reinstalling antivirus not help. This problem is only on Windows 7. On W10 no problem

Before, examining this case we request you to check if you have both AVG Protection and AVG Internet Security programs installed on your PC. Sometimes this may cause this high CPU usage issue.

Also we request you to try repairing the AVG Antivirus program and then check with the issue.

In case if the issue still persists please refer to this article to run AVG Clear and remover tool to completely remove the AVG Internet Security program and its traces. Then reinstall the AVG Internet Security program on your PC by referring to this article and check if it still shows the same status.

As a follow-up to this, I traced some of the files being scanned and it seems to be scanning files in my Adobe directories over and over again.  Is there any use in getting the C:\ProgramData\Acg\Antivirus\Log\AVGSvc.Log for examination?
