Hi Ben,
This isn't the experience we want you to have. We'd like to look into this & help you.
Initially, please clarify whether there are any other antivirus installed on your computer & let us know the version of AVG (Open AVG - Menu - About).
For better clarity, share us the screenshot of the page that shows the CPU consumption by AVG.

AVGUI.exe is consuming 50% of my CPU resource and causing the system to run incredibly slowly, preventing me from working in programs like Davinci Resolve, Silverfast, Fusion 360 etc. This is a frequent and consistent problem every time I use the workstation.
AVG's antivirus free.

Hi Dinesh,
There is no other antivirus software on the system and I made sure to install a completely clean copy of Windows 10 (using an official microsoft disc image) when I built the system.
AVG software version: 22.1.3219 (build 22.1.6921.715)
UI Version: 1.0.652
The screenshot link you provided appears to be down for maintenance so I'll have to give you the '1000 words or less' approach...
Imagine the Resource Monitor window displaying CPU processes arranged by their current percentage of CPU use in descending order. Right at the top, all the time, is AVGUI.exe averaging 45% consumption with peaks as high as 70%. Followed by perfmon.exe itself @ 1%, then various system processes all <1% in descending order. Interestingly there is a second instance of AVGUI.exe some 10 items down that list consuming <1% - which is what I'd expect. Perhaps the multiple instances of AVGUI.exe is significant? I'm not a programmer so I'm just throwing ideas around here..
In total the CPU hovers around 70% capacity @ 107% maximum frequency.
This is not limited to the most recent update of AVG however, it has been a long term issue for me and I see via a google search that it's something many other people have also had a problem with for years.
The combined amount of electrical power and CPU life this process must have wasted in the years I've been using AVG is staggering to think about - reflected in my electricity bills and my eventual need to replace worn out hardware that's been needlessly throttling >100% its entire life.
I appreciate your time though Dinesh. Please present a solution to this if you have one, else I will have to look elsewhere for a properly implemented antivirus software.
Thanks, Ben
