Cancelled subscription

Our AVG (Digital River Ireland) multidevice anti-virus security was due to expire on 2 June 2022. AVG emailed to say we would be automatically charged $115.99 for renewal on 25 May 2022 if we did not cancel. On 21 May 2022 (before we flew from Australia to Fiji on 22 May), I cancelled the subscription in my account on the AVG website. On 24 May  I was billed, through Paypal, $115.99. How can I request reimbursement and if AVG refuses, how can I prevent this happening again next year?
