Hello Karen,
To determine if the issue is caused by AVG, I would request you to disable AVG protection completely and check if that resolves the issue. To disable AVG protection, please right click on AVG system tray icon, toggle the protection button to Off.
I have just got this problem too. It is not cured by switching off AVG. Family Tree maker and the firewall in my router have not been updated recently. The only update I explicitly authorised was to Java. This told me that my 64bit Firefox does not allow the Java add-in. Could this be the issue?
I work with Family Tree Maker 2012 and since updating my AVG, I am unable to access the internet through the program. The message is that I either have no internet connection, which is not true, or a firewall is preventing me from access. I tried turning off the firewall, but that didn't help. Suggestions?
I have done some more research. The solution is explained in Redirecting
Users of the later verions of Family Tree Maker can download a free update to 2017. Users of earlier verions must pay £80 to upgrade at Software MacKiev - International Store
