Cannot Create Email Scanner Server for Yahoo

Hello Jonathan,

For POP3 the Local Port number should be 5100.
We request you to enter the Local Port as 5100 and check whether the issue persist.

Many thanks Balasubramanian. Port 5100 now works fine for POP3 on Yahoo whilst port 5300 still works fine for Ntlworld. For SMTP,  Yahoo works with 5200 and Ntlworld works with 5400. HOWEVER, I now cannot get   Hotmail (pop3.live.com and smtp.live.com) to work with AVG. I keep getting a socket error 10061 for server 127.0.0.1, i.e. localhost. Are there any specific ports I should use for Hotmail and AVG with SSL, e.g. 5500?

Hi. SORRY - please ignore previous post. Sent incomplete in error!

AVG 2016 Antivirus Free version reports an error when I try to modify a server for pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk. An error occurred when saving the configuration: Data aren't valid.
POP3 Server Name: pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
Type of login: Fixed Host: pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk on port 995
Local Port: 5300
Connection: Secure to regular port
Activate this server is ticked.
Same error occurs with smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk

This all worked fine when I did it for pop.ntlworld.com and for smtp.ntlworld.com. I am sending and receiving emails OK for those servers with AVG scanning working. Windows Live Mail is configured correctly to use 127.0.0.1 with ports 5300 and 5400.

Hi Komal. Thanks for your reply. I can access my Hotmail account from Windows Live Mail directly using pop3.live.com on port 995 and smtp.live.com on port 587. These are, I believe, the recommended port settings for Hotmail. HOWEVER, when I try to configure AVG to intercept incoming and outgoing mail I keep getting the socket error 10061 that I mentioned above. My other email accounts all work fine with AVG using POP3 and SMTP via the localhost server (127.0.0.1). It seems to be a problem with the port numbers I am using for Hotmail but I can't find any information on what should work. I use ports 5100, 5200, 5300 and 5400 with my other email accounts as specificd above. Is this a Hotmail problem or do I need to use particular port numbers? I know that I must use the same port numbers (whatever they are) in AVG and Livemail so that the two programs can communicate via the localhost server. Many thanks. Jonathan. BTW I have no problems accessing mail via my web browser.

Hi Jonathan,
I appreciate your efforts in fixing this issue. I understand that you are facing issues in configuring AVG Email Scanner for your Hotmail account. Please let me know if you have configured Hotmail in Windows live mail. Please check if you are able to send or receive emails in Hotmail (from Windows live mail) without any issues. If yes, please open Account settings in Windows live mail and double click on the Hotmail account settings. Please check the port number for Hotmail there and configure the same in the AVG Email scanner as you did earlier.

If you are accessing your Hotmail email using your web browser, AVG is protecting you in a different way and it is not necessary to configure it manually. Thank you for understanding. Komal, AVG Customer Care.
