Thank you for the advice, it worked well. I am now sorted but it is a shame that AVG could not have pointed me to this solution more easily. I had 2013 software causing problems so naively assumed that the 2015 remover was not an appropriate tool!
Mike, Try removing AVG by downloading & using the 32 or 64bit 2015 Remover (http://www.avg.com/ww-en/utilities) [Scroll Down], whichever suits your system. If you're not sure about 32 or 64 bit on your system have a look @ this link (http://forums.avg.com/ww-en/avg-free-forum?sec=thread&act=show&id=140471#post_140471).

Initially I tried to uninstall using the "Control Panel" but it came up with an error saying that I did not have the correct permission from "System" (please note that I am using Administrator permission level on my user account). I then followed your online help and used "AVG Remover" but it said that the internet connection had failed. I have tried again using the "Control Panel" but now says "Please wait until current program is finished uninstalling or being changed". Please advise what I should do next.
