I should add I'm running Windows 10
Hi Gui.
Sorry for the delay in responding.
We'd need the file in question to analyze it if it is a false detection.
I have sent an email containing instructions to send it to us. Please revert it containing requested details to assist you further.
Have you got any news on this?
I am running AVG 20.3.3120 (build 20.3.5200.574). As from the title, a safe file (.exe) that I have been using for a while has suddenly been detected from AVG as a IDP.generic threat and put in quarantine.
The problem is, as a result of this, my program is broken and AVG does not let me restore the file from quarantine. If I try to restore the file, I get the error: "An error has occurred. The file cannot be restored".
This is serious, since I cannot even uninstall and reinstall my program, given that uninstall needs exactly the file that AVG has taken away from me. This is causing me some serious trouble, given I need to use this program.
Reading from some older posts, I see that similar problems with AVG were occurring already back in 2017. In this post, in date June 30 2017, someone from AVG support wrote:
"I would like to inform you that, if the files you are trying to restore are detected by Identity protection component of AVG, it may not work. You will see "IDP" in the prefix of the threat name if it is detected by identity component. This is a known issue and our developers are working on a fix. It should be available in upcoming program updates and I request your patience in this matter."
I cannot believe that, three years later, these issues have not been solved.
Hi Giu.
We're sorry for the inconvenience caused.
This was an issue in the earlier versions of AVG and it shouldn't be happening in the latest version.
Let me escalate this issue to our senior technical team. We will get back to you at the earliest possible.
Appreciate your patience.
