Perhaps they really are threats. Is there really a program called "Media player" installed on your computer? Any updates for Windows Media Player would come from Microsoft, you open WMP and check for updates yourself. Are these messages actually appearing on the desktop, or only when a browser is open? It might be helpful if you could post a screenshot. Meanwhile, in Whole Computer Scan settings, I suggest that you check "report enhanced set of potentially unwanted programs" then run a scan. I'm afraid you probably have some kind of adware. Is your browser being redirected to web pages not of your choosing?
Each time I start my Windows desktop a message appears that I need to update Flashplayer and today Media player…but when I try to download updates AVG tells me its a threat and removes it.
