Hello Tamara,
We are sorry to know you are unable to remove older traces of AVG from your PC. We would like to inform you that the updates for 2016 version of AVG has been stopped so it is not possible to install AVG 2016 and AVG 2017 in same PC. Please run AVG Clear tool and AVG Remover tool to remove AVG traces using the below instructions.
1 Use the link https://share.avg.com/steam/PSP/AVG2017/AVG_Clear.exe to run the AVG Clear tool.
2 Open the AVG Clear tool, click Yes in the User Account control dialog.
3 Click No in the Windows safe mode dialog.
4 Select the installed version of AVG and also check the box 'Uninstall AVG Zen Network'. Then click Uninstall, and Restart computer.
My XP laptop is on a school network that generally blocks AVG's system updates (Yeah, I know, they're idiots, something about it being shareware, not anything I can do about it. I'm not technically supposed to be on the network, but it reaches my house, and they haven't tried to block me in the three years they've had it up, so… )
A while ago, I took it to a friend's house to do updates, and found out I had to upgrade to your new Zen thing. (Which, btw, I'm not all that impressed with) So fine, I installed the new program. For whatever reason, it seemed to not have properly overwritten the old version and was trying to run both versions at the same time. I have run your uninstaller a few times, in and out of safe mode, and while it removes the zen, it refuses to remove the old version, which continues to mess with the newer version, and I can't get either of them to do anything. I have also tried deactivating the startup files in msconfig, and that has done nothing either, and manually removing the files, which only gives me the in-use error.
