Hello Reginald,

Thank you for your patience.

If you are unsure about a certain file you can always use our false positive form (https://www.avg.com/en-us/false-positive-file-form#pc). After the analysis is completed, we will inform you if it is correct or not.

About hashes, we recommend uploading the file to the Virus total (https://www.virustotal.com/gui/home/upload) database as it shows you the SHA256 and also if Antivirus vendors think it is malicious or not.

I hope this helps and clarifies your concerns.

Thanks. Have a great day!
Jovana

Is there a way to see the hash algorithms (MD5, SHA1, SHA256)? I just recently got a nasty trojan from Brother's downloading and installing printer software that I thought was legit. I had to do a complete system wipe to get rid of it and changing account passwords. I am extra cautious now and check hash files before I run installation programs now.
