The update to 2017 version will happen automatically but it will not install the Google Chrome browser during the update.

If it is a version upgrade from 2016 to 2017, the setup will install Google chrome also.
Hello Nunya,
The offers for installing Google Chrome can appear either during fresh installation, update, upgrade or even randomly when specific campaign is triggered. The reason for this offer is that Google chrome is a most secure d browser and we have partnered with them to do this promotion. However, it should not be installed automatically under any circumstances even if it is unchecked before the installation- if it would happen then it's a bug and logs would be needed to escalate the case to our specialists.
Hello Mark,
If it is a version upgrade from 2016 to 2017, the setup will install Google chrome also. This version upgrade is automatic and I request you to uninstall chrome browser if you do not want to use it. It should not happen in a program update.
The setting 'Ask before installing' is for program update but not for version upgrade. When this option is enabled, a single click is enough to allow the update to install.
AVG upgraded itself to 17.6.3029 yesterday. I don't believe anyone using the computer asked for this upgrade, even though it was set to ask before upgrade. This led to:
1) Google Chrome being installed this morning
2) AVG updates being set to automatic - even though I had it set to ask before installing.
There are two possibilities:
1) someone else on this computer asked for the upgrade - this could be my six-year-old daughter as there seems to be nothing to stop non-administrators asking for the upgrade. It could also have been my wife, who is an administrator, who tried to click one of the pop-ups away and accidentally asked for an upgrade. However, I don't think they would have clicked through the entire upgrade procedure accidentally.
2) (and more likely) AVG decided, in this case, to override my preference and did the upgrade in the background. When it upgrades in the background, there is no possibility to say you do not want Chrome and chrome gets installed for you. This has happened to at least one other person (https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000DoDoAAK).
In the response to the linked answer Balasubramanian (AVG Technologies) says " The update to 2017 version will happen automatically but it will not install the Google Chrome browser during the update." Well, it seems to have upgraded me now, but it has installed Chrome during the update.
This has happened to me once before - am I the only one?
Hello Nunya,
I understand the situation and the statements that we have given here.
I have forwarded the case to senior team for getting a confirmation on Google Chrome installation through AVG upgrade.
Please keep checking the post to know about the status.
Your patience is much appreciated.
