My Chrome browser shuts down several times a day. It also will direct you an ad for other websites while working in an existing program. If you want to click on another page in a program, it will direct you to some random advertisement.
I have to use Chrome and Edge, so no option to just dump Chrome. The problem does not seem to exist while using Edge.
Please help, it is affecting my work.
Hello Debbie,
Thank you for contacting AVG Community Support.
We understand that you are being redirected while using chrome and suspect that it is infected.
This is definitely not the experience we wanted you to have & we're truly sorry for the discomfort this has caused.
A browser hijacker is malicious software that changes a browser’s behavior, settings, or appearance without user consent. A hijacked browser creates advertising revenue for the hijacker and can facilitate more dangerous activities such as data collection and keystroke logging.
The browser hijacker is not really a virus in the full sense of the word. A browser hijacker can also redirect your searches towards other pages, and it can be very annoying to have it on your computer. AVG AntiVirus is a great malware removal application, but they may not remove the hijacker because it is often installed by the user with administrator permission. This often happens during bundled software downloads and subsequent installations. Hence, unwanted software and/or add-ons hijack the browser.
We suggest you to follow the steps from this article: | AVG. (https://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?l=en&urlname=avg-remove-browser-hijacker#:~:text=A%20browser%20hijacker%20can%20also,the%20user%20with%20administrator%20permission.)
