Hello, Hugh.
May I know if it is Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 that you are running?
It is Windows 7.
Hugh
My AVG anti-virus software 'cannot start or run properly' due to (according to Microsoft) 'incompatibility with my 64 bit version of Windows'. What can I do to solve this problem?
Hello, Hugh.
May I know if it is Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 that you are running?
Thanks, Hugh.
AVG is fully compatible with Windows 7 SP1 or higher, any Edition (32 or 64-bit). Could you share a screenshot (http://avgclick.me/getscreenshot) of the message about the incompatibility? Please uninstall if you have any other anti virus program installed on your PC. It is generally not recommended to use more than one security solution on a single system. They will compete for resources, which may result in slowdowns, crashes or in no protection at all.
It is Windows 7.
Hugh
Thank you for providing the screenshots Hugh,
The issues might be because of old/previous AVG traces.
In this case, I request you to remove AVG completely along with any previous traces using the AVG clear tool/AVG Remover tool and then do a fresh installation of AVG Internet Security. This will ensure that none of the previous traces of AVG are left on your computer and you have an updated version.
Please follow the instruction ( http://support.avg.com/SupportArticleView?urlname=How-to-troubleshoot-issues-after-upgrade-to-the-latest-AVG-antivirus-product ) to run AVG Remover tool and AVG Clear tool.
After the computer reboots, you can follow the instruction to download/install/activate AVG Internet Security. You have to use license option to activate it.
You can uninstall the Malwarebytes from your computer, if you're using it's paid version. Normally, we do not recommend to use two Antivirus/malwarebytes programs for a computer.
Cheers,
Alok.
Hugh, For your info, just in case that you are unaware, you can post the screenshot here in your topic. Click on 'Answer' & then click on the 'Image' [mountain symbol] & follow the instructions.
